Going Down to South Park - Free Episodes Online Now!

Following in the footsteps of Hulu, the creators and copyright holders of the animated cartoon South Park have decided to release all South Park episodes online for free of cost but supported by advertisements. In a huge contrast to content interrupting Hulu ads, the advertisements on South Park Studios appear on the site itself, and do not interrupt the episodes!

Their site streams all these episodes and the streaming happens quite quickly. The quality of the video is also very good. I did happen upon a glitch where one episode (Mystery of the Urinal Deuce –hadn’t seen it before and the title reminded me of an incident on my dorm room floor in my freshman year at USC, but that story is for another post, another day) skipped forward six seconds at the start but otherwise the site runs flawlessly.

So the site is cool and the idea works very well. I’m a big advocate of media such as South Park and other TV shows and movies being free and ad-supported. Another very sweet feature of the South Park site is the ability to create your own South Park avatars. The selection is a bit limited right now but you can still come up with some cool and unique characters.

Here’s me in the 4th grade:

South Park Avatar 4th grade me

Look how happy I am in my grunge gear, towering over all the other kids at the playground.

Let’s fast forward thirty-five years and check out future me:

Future me South Park

My, how times have changed. Happy grunge me has turned into a balding vigilante with a gun living in exile in Mexico. Well, at least I’ve got a mohawk mullet thing going on. Chicks are sure to dig that look in the future for its maximized business in the front, party in the back, rebellion down the middle efficiency.

So, all in all, South Park Studios, even though it is still in beta, is already a sweet success.

Score 4/5

Casting Call for New Bruce Willis Film, The Surrogates

I just received an e-mail from a good friend about an open casting call for the film The Surrogates, starring Bruce Willis and Rhada Mitchell. The film is a science-fiction story about a futuristic world where humans interact with each other via surrogate robots while every human sits at home in isolation. The film appears to be based of the graphic novels, The Surrogates by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele. The story sounds very cool and the graphic novels are rated as 5/5 on Amazon.com. Check out the cool artwork on the cover:

Below are the official details for the open casting call. Personally, I’m not gonna shower until then and try out for a dread role! (kidding…about the not showering part…being a “dread” sounds wicked cool)

C.P. Casting & Meagan Lewis Casting are holding a casting call for “Surrogates”, a feature film starring Bruce Willis and Rhada Mitchell.

When:

Saturday, March 29, 2008
10:00 AM until 4:00 PM

Where:

Felt Nightclub – Boston
533 Washington Street, Boston, MA, 02111

What:

Extras and speaking roles are needed for a science fiction
feature film that will shoot in Boston for several weeks starting April 28.

We are looking for men and women [AGE 18+] of all races and types.

We are particularly looking to cast SURROGATES, remotely operated
synthetic humans who are distinguishable from flesh-and-blood humans
primarily by their physical perfection. In this future world, any consumer
who can afford it can have an attractive looking SURROGATE replace them
in the real world.

All Actors who wish to be considered for SURROGATE Roles should look
their BEST. That means Men, clean shaven and Women having done their
make up and hair to the very best of their ability, and dressed to impress!

Not a SURROGATE? That’s ok, we also need all types to play “real
humans” and DREADS, a particularly downtrodden group of anti-
surrogate rebels who wish to destroy the surrogacy way of life…

If you can, please bring a recent photo with you. (It will not be returned!)

NO PHONE CALLS, PLEASE!
JUST SHOW UP!

Sounds cool. Good luck to everyone who tries out!

I Hate the Federal Reserve

I just received an e-mail from the Executive Vice President of HSBC Direct informing me that HSBC is once again dropping the interest rate on my online savings account, this time from 3.55% to 3.05%! Aaargh! At least it’s only dropped by .5% but it’s still frustrating, especially considering the savings rate started at 5.05% and rose to 5.55% Of course, I knew this drop would happen sooner or later once the Federal Reserve dropped its interest rate from 3% to 2.25% but it’s still frustrating.

I’ve got nothing substantive to add, just wanted to vent.
