Today is the 111th Day of the Year

Today is the 111th day of the year, and as such marks the year being 1/3 over in my calendar. As the day of the birth of myself occurs in the last 32/33 days of the year, I write off the totality of those days as one massive holiday. So, what have I gotten accomplished in this first third of the year?

Here’s a list of 14 15 accomplishments:

Have you accomplished any significant goals or done something you’re particularly proud or pleased about in the past 3-4 months? If so, do share below.

Here’s to a great middle and end to the year!

My Redirects to WWW Work!

Yes!

A long time ago (in this galaxy, not one far away), after reading Daniel’s WWW or no-WWW? post I implemented an Apache redirect in my .htaccess file to redirect my non-www address to www.adampieniazek.com/. It worked, but all non-www addresses would redirect to my homepage instead of to each individual page (for instance, adampieniazek.com/about/ would go to www.adampieniazek.com instead of to www.adampieniazek.com/about/). Well, it kept bugging me and bugging me and I kept trying alternate ways to get this to work properly and today it finally works right!

Here’s the piece of code that finally sorted out the kinks:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^\.adampieniazek\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.adampieniazek.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Credit goes to the good people at no-www for putting the code in their FAQ (though switched to redirect the www address to the non-www address).

If anyone experiences any issues, please drop me a quick line.

Why I Quit Smoking

I realized I was committing a slow, sad, drawn-out suicide, so in the second week of January of this year I quit. Cold turkey. Easiest thing I’ve ever done.

Then three months later I quit my job at the cube farm and got to living. Whoever said quitters never win, never faced Big Tobacco.

My Very Own Big Fat RSS Icon

Photoshop is ordinarily a big mystery to me. Not sure if it’s because of a lack of understanding of the program or my limitations as an artist (I can draw a mean stick figure, but that’s about it) but I just don’t find Photoshop very intuitive or easy to use.

Well, thanks to darrenlondon’s video tutorial I was able to put together the big blue shiny RSS icon you see in the top right side of this page.

Edit: Figured I might as well put the RSS icon into this post for the benefit of my existing RSS subscribers and in case I changed the icon in the future. Here it is:

My Big Fat Blue RSS Feed Icon

It might not be the prettiest of web 2.0 icons but hey, I’m proud of it!
