Resignation from the State Street Corporation

Yup, that’s right; it is now official, I am no longer employed by the State Street Corporation.

Don’t worry, I’m not gonna do what you all think I’m gonna do, which is, you know, FLIP OUT!

That Tom Cruise quote from Jerry Maguire is a perfect example of how not to separate yourself from an employer. The time to flip out is while you still work there and can affect a change, not on your way out the door. My resignation from State Street, on the other hand, was quite professional and I left on very good terms with everyone at the office.

I’m not going to get into the reasons I just resigned from a Fortune 500 company in the middle of a recession with no guarantee of job but will say it was time to move on and pursue other opportunities.

It might seem crazy to resign from a decent paying job while the economy sputters, but I’ve done a very, very good job over the past two and a half years of paying off my debts and saving up enough money to sustain myself for at least the next 6 months.

Overall, I enjoyed my time at State Street and learned a good deal about the corporate world but it was time for me to move on.

I’ve got a few plans for the coming months and my now abundance of “free” time but will tackle that topic in another post.

To all the people I’ve met over the past two and a half years at State Street, thank you for the memories and good luck to all of you!

A Contest: Free Ronald Jenkees CD

It’s with great pride and honor that adampieniazek.com brings you its first ever contest. It’s been nearly six months since this blog’s first post and to celebrate I’ll be giving away a free copy of Ronald Jenkees’ self-titled debut album.

Through the months, all of this blog’s crucial statistics have improved (on pace to blow out my high mark for unique visitors tonight), except one: comments!

So, in an attempt to increase those numbers, this contest will be very simple; simply comment on this post and you’ll entered for a chance at Ronald’s awesome CD! For those who don’t want to wait a week, you can order Ronald’s debut album directly from his blog.

At the end of the contest, all comments will be reviewed and all valid comments (not spam) will be tossed into a pool and randomly chosen. You can comment on anything you want, but I’m interested in how you first heard about Ronald Jenkees and what do you think of his music?

This contest will end next Monday at midnight. Make sure you leave an e-mail address when commenting so I can get in contact with the winner. Good luck!

Done: Time for Beer

Though both my summer classes were enjoyable and educational, I’m wicked glad that I’m now officially done with both of them and can relax a little bit over the next month and a half.

During the coming weeks you’ll see some assignments from these classes that I’ve been holding back (until they’re all posted). I’m also considering taking a few free classes from UC Berkley via their podcast lectures (the Computer Science classes also post the syllabus and textbook online), so look out for my experience with public domain learning. Now, after nearly ten months of continuous classes, I’m going to crack open a well deserved, ice cold, beer (UFO Hefeweizen with a lemon, to be exact). Ten more classes to go! Cheers everyone!

Undergraduate Summer 2007 Grades - University of Massachusetts at Amherst

The final grade for the Business and Its Environment undergraduate course at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst was published to the SPIRE web-site last week.

Business and Its Environment Final Grade

My A grade continues the trend from my classes during the Spring and Winter sessions, a trend that will hopefully continue through the graduate class, Perspectives on Leadership, I’m still enrolled in and through the other ten classes I need to graduate. Look for updates on the final grade for the graduate course in a few weeks (class ends July 30th). For those keeping track at home, after four undergraduate courses at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, as of the end (for me, as I will not participate in the second session) of the undergraduate summer 2007 session, my GPA is a 4.0!
