This Blog Now iPhone Friendly!

Check it out iPhone visitors, this blog is now super iPhone friendly. This blog appeared 99% fine in Safari on the iPhone before [some videos wouldn’t play due to lack of Flash] but now it’s optimized so the text fits perfectly on the screen. Sure, all the advertisements and other personal theme stuff goes away but that’s OK because I know Edge can be wicked slow so anything to make the blog load faster on mobile devices is OK with me.

Credit for the iPhone optimization goes to the great team over at contentrobot and their iWPhone plugin and theme.

Here’s a few screenshots of how the blog now looks on an iPhone:

Bottom part of the blog (haha, I said bottom):

What do you think? If you’ve got an iPhone or iPod Touch, this plugin should make reading this site a lot easier and nicer of an experience. Let me know if you have any suggestions, issues, or any other thoughts!

Bye Bye Sezwho

A few days ago I installed the Sezwho plugin which allowed visitors to this site to rate comments and posts. At first the system seemed very smooth but today the Sezwho web-site went down and it resulted in my site not loading too. I’ve deactivated the plugin and my blog is loading again. My apologies to anyone who tried to access this site earlier and was met with difficulties.

Due to the Saturday Sezwho Server Shenanigans, as well as two other issues, I’ve decided to remove the Sezwho comment rating system from this blog. Hopefully no one will miss it too much and remember bloggers, you can still get your commentluv here!

The other two issues I had with the Sezwho system were the CSS popups and the “Who Am I?” link that proved near impossible to remove. The CSS popups were very tacky and annoying in my opinion and combined with today’s server outage proved to be the nail in the coffin for Sezwho on this blog. Honestly, I wish Sezwho and any bloggers using their system the best of luck.

It’s a good step for this blog, in my opinion, to minimize 3rd party services on this site in order to prevent future outages. I’ll be working on a site architecture issues over the next few days to make this site a lean, mean, blogging machine. Aside from today’s issues, this site seems to work well and is improving. In other words, to borrow a quote from one of the greatest books ever written, Don’t Panic!

Yesterday Entrecard founder Graham Langdon published a blog post to announce a big new partnership between Entrecard and Sezwho, the comment rating system. As you can see below [in the comments section of this post], this blog now features the Sezwho system. By no means is this a permanent addition to the blog here. For the next week, we’ll have a test run so if you have any issues with the new rating system, let me know! If there are no bugs and you all find it to be a good addition to the site then it will remain.

Also, while evaluating Sezwho, I’ve also decided to keep the Entrecard system up for now. Entrecard will now be rewarding users for thoughtful comments (based on the comments’ rating) with Entrecard credits, which I think is a much better system than clicking drop on other people’s cards. If you’re subscribed via the RSS feed [and if you’re not subscribed, sign up today!] then the new comment rating system should not affect your feed viewing. Remember, using the Sezwho ratings is completely voluntary but if you have any issues with it, please let me know!
