Gmail Thinks Google Alerts is Spam?!?

How does Gmail classify a Google Alerts e-mail as a spam message?

Hehehe, yeah I was surprised myself the other day when I found a Google Alert in their own Spam folder… :-D
    Indeed worth a screen shot.

It’s quite strange. I’m just glad I have proof of it Marcus!

    That’s a good one :D
I try to do the same in hotmail, marking their ads and anouncements emails as spam but I still get them in the mail box :(

Hmm…good idea virtual. Sorry it didn’t work for you, hotmail seems to be smarter than I remember it!

I thought I’d never get to say this, but.. stupid google. PS, how come you’re using safari? Firefox beta is sweet..

Haha blargumentor. It does feel good to know that even Google has its’ flaws.

I’m using Safari for a couple of reasons, but mostly because it’s quicker to load and use and crashes much less frequently. Also, when it does crash (which is inevitable since I load up too many tabs no matter what browser I use) there is a very, very handy “Reopen all windows from last session” option under the History menu that does what it says.

I found that even with tab mix plus and Firefox’s built-in window recovery many times Firefox would reload after a crash without all my previous windows, which for my browsing tendencies is a big loss.

I haven’t given Firefox 3 beta a try yet, but hear it is improved in terms of performance but does it have improved window recovery features? The first thing I did when I got my Macbook Pro a year ago was to install Firefox but I’m finding I like Safari. Still, I could be swayed back to the fox IF it’s recovery process at least matches Safari’s excellent feature.

Me too, but I need the alerts. What can be done about it?

Assa, you should add “googlealerts-noreply@google.com” to your contacts list. Gmail is supposed to let senders in your contact list through to your inbox.

Also keep checking the spam folder in your Gmail and mark the alerts as not spam. Adding Google alerts to your contacts should prevent this false positive from reoccurring but just to be safe I’d recommend to continue to watch your spam folder.

Thanks Adam. Seems to be working.
